Famous Scientists, Once Dismissed

February 13th, 2011 - by Robby Slaughter

The humor site Cracked.com recently outlined the story of several important researchers. Today, we herald their contributions. During their lifetime, they were considered crackpots.

The story, 5 Famous Scientists Dismissed as Morons in Their Time, explains:

Every nutjob in the world with some out-there theory thinks he’s Galileo, rejected for daring to think different. Virtually all of them are, in fact, simply insane.

Yet, there have been brilliant rebels who put their own world-changing ideas on the line, only to end up…humiliated, ridiculed, ignored and/or straight driven to insanity.

Using colorful language, the author makes an important point. Just because people think your ideas are crazy doesn’t mean you aren’t on to something revolutionary. In fact, there are countless examples of critical discoveries that were the work of people considered to be completely off their rocker.

Failure is the secret to success. If nobody thinks you can do it, that’s actually a pretty good sign that you might be on the right track!
