Man Takes Telemarketing Failure Into His Own Hands

October 2nd, 2013 - by Alyssa Shea

One of the many annoyances in modern life is people calling us when we are trying to eat dinner. But this failure of corporate marketing has become a successful money making venture for one clever individual.

In 2011, Lee Beaumont decided to take matters into his own hands when it came to the obnoxious insistent ring of his telephone. He decided that he had enough of telemarketers and found his version of revenge. He decided to change his number to a premium number, which would then charge the telemarketers a fee to call him.

Phone Pay Plus, which provides the service for the premium numbers, warned the public about following Beaumont’s lead.

“Premium rate numbers are not designed to be used in this way and we would strongly discourage any listeners from adopting this idea, as they will be liable under our code for any breaches and subsequent fines that result.”

Proceed with caution, and if you really want to risk fines, then try out this brand of justice. As for for Lee Beaumont, he successfully turned the telemarketing company’s failure into a success.
