Dustin Hoffman Talks Failing and Therapy

January 5th, 2015 - by Alyssa Shea

We here at Failure The Blog really love failure to success stories, especially when they come from celebrities being completely honest about their rise to fame. This time, we’re going to take a look at Dustin Hoffman.

We’ll be honest – we really do enjoy keeping up with celebrities’ lives. It’s hard not to when they’re all over every magazine cover you walk past in the grocery store. Some interviews can be a waste of time to read, but sometimes, you come across gems like Alec Baldwin’s failures, J.K. Rowling’s embracing of failure and now, we can add Dustin Hoffman’s interview with The Talk to that list.

Hoffman discusses his use of therapy that has helped him navigate his triumphs and mistakes. Even though he had tons of success with the movie, The Graduate, he had 12 years of failure under his belt at that point. When asked if therapy helped him to deal with life, he admitted that it was actually to help him deal with his failures. Not only has the actor doubted himself, but he has had to deal with anxiety attacks and his feelings of how success corrupts the integrity of acting.
