Turning Failures In Your Career Into Success

May 25th, 2015 - by Alyssa Shea

Everyone fails at least in their careers. No one is perfect, after all. So how can we learn from those failures and turn them into lasting success?

Sarah Mahoney wrote an eye-opening piece in Self. In it, she delves into her biggest failures, the most impressive one being getting fired from a national magazine. She explained how not only did she have to deal with that rejection, but it became a headline in one of the local papers. She was mortified and devastated. Then, a friend told her something that completely changed her state of mind:

“Now that everyone has seen you flat on your ass, you won’t ever be afraid of failing again.”

This taught Mahoney to embrace failure instead of running and hiding from it. Using this new “failing forward” strategy, she found ways to use her defeat to create success. She goes on to give some pretty solid advice, titled “How To Aim To Win.” Failure can lead you toward success!
