Golfer Ben Hogan Survived Failures

September 8th, 2015 - by Alyssa Shea

Pro Golfer, Ben Hogan, didn’t have it easy. He had to make it through a lot of rough times in order to reach success.

Ben Hogan didn’t have anything handed to him. His childhood wasn’t the greatest, either. It’s reported that his father committed suicide and he may have been the one to discover that fact. He went on to turn pro at age 17 in 1929. He battled his issue with a hook but was able to change his game with nonstop effort and hard work. Hogan stated that he “dug it out of the dirt.” After coming back from serving in World War II, he won the 1946 PGA Championship.

Tragedy struck in 1949 when he was involved in a serious car crash, making him unable to play on a full schedule again. But that didn’t stop Hogan. He returned in 1950 and won the U.S. Open that year. It just goes to show that failure can turn into success!
