One federal government program has achieved success by providing free dental care to one million children. Yet only a small percentage of eligible children have taken advantage of it so far. What is the reason behind this failure?
This plan, named the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, is headed by Australia’s top medical officer. Their success can be seen easily in the smiles of every child they have treated. Yet their cause has hit a brick wall and may be scrapped completely.
“Although original targets for the scheme may have been too ambitious, it said the scheme had been “underutilised, which is possibly a reflection of its underpromotion”.”
Through this program, $1000 of free dental care is provided to children ages 2 to 17 whose parents are receiving benefits from the government. Once citizens found out, they reacted immediately by signing a petition.
“Alarmed by the plan to axe the scheme, more than 10,000 people have signed a Change.org petition started by dentists to lobby Ms Ley to keep the keep the scheme.”
Through this failure, success can be found by the people supporting the program and the dentists who make a difference!
