Lady Gaga Wasn’t An Instant Success

July 19th, 2016 - by Alyssa Shea

Lady Gaga is one of the most popular pop icons. Her big hits reach the top of charts worldwide and her success has been consistently rising. Yet this singer didn’t become accomplished over night.

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, better known as Lady Gaga now, was a classically trained pianist. She was determined from a young age to make it in the big time, getting her start at 14 years old by playing in New York bars.

She abandoned her studies to fully immerse herself in her music and finally was picked up by famous artists to write their lyrics. Though she was signed to Def Jams records, Gaga was dropped from the label and then signed on with Interscope. Yet still, she met resistance by radio stations.

“They would say, ‘This is too racy, too dance-oriented, too underground. It’s not marketable.’ And I would say, ‘My name is Lady Gaga, I’ve been on the music scene for years, and I’m telling you, this is what’s next.’ And look…I was right.”

Sometimes, you will have to fail in order to succeed!
