Nick Woodman’s Failures Before GoPro

October 11th, 2016 - by Alyssa Shea

Before Nick Woodman became known for the wildly popular GoPro, he founded two startups, both of which you probably have never heard of before this article.

Woodman, after earning a B.A. in visual arts with a minor in creative writing in 1997, decided that he wanted to become an entrepreneur. His first two endeavors, EmpowerAll.com and Funbug, never found much success. He took both of these failures personally and decided to take some time to travel the world on a surfing tour.

While surfing, he found himself in a pickle, wanting some great action shots of himself catching waves but not having the technology to help him. So, he attached a camera to his hand using a rubber band, and that is how the idea of the GoPro was born. As they say, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” Now, Woodman’s net worth is in the billion range. You have to fail first if you want to succeed!
