Are We Confusing Our Ideas Of Success And Failure?

November 8th, 2016 - by Alyssa Shea

Srinivasa Addepalli’s article in Your Story revolves around how we view failure and success. Could we be wrong about how the two are connected?

Addepalli’s story strikes a chord with us here at The Failure Blog. He was staring down placement week at the end of an MBA and came face-to-face with more failure in those four days than he ever had in his life at that point. He was always devoted to marketing and thought his love of the field would land him a job with a company yet he failed to land a position with any company. The only offer he received was from a consulting firm, something he wasn’t passionate about. He immediately said yes, thankful to have any offer, only to then have to turn down a better offer at a different company. Addepali said:

“Looking back, the biggest lesson I learnt from that day was that we often have our narratives of failure and success all mixed up. While we must have clear goals to chase, we must also not be so rigid that we fail to pursue alternate paths that might present themselves.”

We need to learn from our failures!
