If you ask someone who their favorite United States President is, a good portion will probably tell you that it’s Abraham Lincoln. His many successes are widely known but the failures dotted along his path to success are just as important.
There is a list a mile long with all of Abraham Lincoln’s accomplishments. He did all this after being born into poverty and could have let his defeats derail his road to success. Here are some his more famous failures from Roger Knapp’s list concerning Lincoln’s road to the White House:
1831 Failed in business.
1832 Ran for state legislature – lost.
1835 Was engaged to be married, sweetheart died and his heart was broken.
1836 Had a total nervous breakdown and was in bed for six months.
1849 Sought the job of land officer in his home state – rejected.
1854 Ran for Senate of the United States – lost.
1858 Ran for U.S. Senate again – again he lost.
1860 Elected president of the United States.
