Most of us would start out our business ventures with only dreams of succeeding in the future. Elon Musk, however, decided on a different path to his wildly successful startups. He assumed he wouldn’t succeed.
Scott Pelley of 60 Minutes sat down with Musk to discuss how he has managed to become so wildly successful with his risky startups, Tesla and SpaceX, after he sold his company, PayPal, for $100 million. He responded with this:
“Well, I didn’t think we would be successful. I thought we would most likely fail.”
He must be crazy, right? Why would you sink so much money, time, and effort into something when you aren’t sure at least somewhat sure that something positive will come of the endeavor? Pelley asked the same question and, again, Musk wowed with this response:
“If something’s important enough to you then you should try doing it.”
Clearly, Musk knows exactly how to go about trying! There would be no success without the possibility of failure!
