Ella Fitzgerald is considered one of the best jazz singers which is probably why she ended up in the Grammy Hall of Fame. Her pipes are something to envy. Ella also consistently forgot the lyrics to her own songs!
A Five Year Crash Course In Music wrote an article about the songstress that discussed her popularity and how she famously would make up different lyrics while performing her songs off of the “Ella in Berlin: Mack the Knife” album.
“I loved that famous part where she forgot the lyrics to the second chorus but just kept going with it and making up funny lyrics, essentially admitting that she’d wrecked the song, before spiraling fluidly into a fantastic raucous scat interlude akin to Louis Armstrong’s throaty improvisations.”
The crowds would go wild for her new renditions and it became a part of her style. Something that could have been a failure became a success!
