Jim Croce’s Parents Hoped He Would Fail

March 14th, 2018 - by Alyssa Shea

Jim Croce is an American Folk and Rock singer-songwriter that found fame in the late 60’s, early 70’s. His family actually hoped he would fail.

When Croce released his album in 1966 called Facets, a total of 500 copies were pressed. He had actually financed this project with $500 from his parents. That money was a wedding gift from them with one condition: It had to be spent on making the album. That seems pretty supportive and generous, right?

Well, unfortunately, Croce’s parents figured that the album would fail miserably and he would then give up music. They wanted him to be in a more “respectable” career and to use his college education. In spite of that, the album was a success and every single copy sold. His parents’ negativity didn’t stop him from succeeding!
